This is the story of The Bab, as told by Abdu'l-Baha and translated by Edward Granville Browne, the only Western scholar to ever meet Baha'u'llah.

On that visit, Browne received the Persian manuscript of A Traveller's Narrative, which had been written by Abdu'l-Baha. Browne was not told who the author was; but upon his return to Cambridge Univeristy, he published his translation of the book along with a long introduction and copious notes.

Since then, A Traveller's Narrative has become a classic book of Baha'i literature and a basic text for the study of Baha'i history. Browne's notes and commentary, which reflect his diligent research into the Babi and Baha'i religions, have become as important as the translation itself. his pen portrait of Baha'u'llah has been quoted for over a hundred years in scores of books, and his description of Abdu'l-Baha is almost as famous.

A Traveller's Narrative has had many reprints in European editions. In 1930, the book was reprinted by the Baha'i Publishing Committee. Agin in 1980, the Baha'i Publishing Trust put out a version, but without notes. This is a reprint of the 1930 edition. Between the introduction and the many notes, this volume is easily twice as long as the 1980 edition.

A Traveller's Narrative is Brown's earliest and most brilliant contribution to Baha'i Studies.
